You can help too!
Please spread the word that we need both winter and street hockey gear from around Calgary and the Bow Valley area. And if you know anyone who would like to help with shipping, give us a shout!
Thanks to Debbie and Brent Hamilton in Lloydminster, we made a fabulous connection with Rusty at Comries Sports Equipment Bank in Calgary. Skates and gear that they have too many of can fill a huge shortfall in Ladakh this winter!
As kids are searching out equipment and lacing up for another year of hockey in Alberta, over 1000 kilos of Alberta-donated gear is making its way to the highest hockey rinks in the world in the Western Himalayas.
Cynthia Hunt and the CHAI gang are celebrating 10 years of using hockey to get kids off the streets, away from drugs and back into school in Ladakh.
What difference can that pair of skates you outgrew last year make? Infinite is the answer.
Cynthia is in the Bow Valley schools this week: Thanking kids for last year's videos on "I am, I believe" and challenging students to exchange videos of Maths and Physics taught on the rink this year.
What will the village do when their low caste kids are excluded from the only rink in the region? Reach oiut for help, but solve the problem themselves.
The "Mighty Mediums" told the story in their own video at Winter Camp - Shayok.
When the floods came in 2010 it really helped the kids to just tell their stories.
And it helped Estes Park to hear that - their kids need to tell stories too after what happened in September 2013.
Thanks for the chance to share, Rotary!
Fabulous day at the University of Regina and ranch Erhlo - who gave us another 60+ pairs of little kids skates for this year's Winter Camps.
And Regina wants to think about an exchange with Hockey in the Himalayas. What a learning opportunity for kids on both sides of the big pond.
An afternoon at King's discussing the complexities of development work in a time of climate change, bureaucratic sluggishness and rapid modernization.
Cynthia will be blogging as she works with our Himalayan projects this year.
