Kayla and Debbie taught friendship bracelets at Summer Camps in Shayok and Domkhar. Great for patterning, as maths teacher Debbie knows. But even better for a little girls whose been stuck in hospital for four months now.
The first day I came to visit them, Chuskit was screaming in fear as another vile of blood was drawn. Tashi, her dad, was beside himself.
What do I do? How can just one person make a difference?
The Labour officer is a friend. He was looking on my camera while waiting in the DC’s office and (innocently) asked “Who is this charmer?”
The next day, Tashi was in his office receiving help. He had been out of work for four months as he sat by his daughter’s side in hospital. With bills piling up. And a little afraid of the future.
What can one person do? Ask Kayla. Ask Chuskit. She and Spalzes (our other Hanu girl with brittle bone disease) will be teaching over 160 kids friendship bracelets at Winter Camp this year.
