It doesn't look like an ice rink . . . yet.
We just got the news that we can get some plastic, hundreds of pairs of skates, guards, helmets and more sticks from Ottawa to Delhi. (Once in Delhi there's no stopping a determined Ladakhi or hockey player posted to the High Commission there getting it up to Ladakh.)
And working with Jim Stoller from NiceRinks, we're getting expert input into how to make an affordable "back-desert" rink here.
The youth met with the Deputy Commissioner on Monday, putting in motion a direct DC's Office - Village Youth Committee project of building those affordable rinks. No contractors involved - no cost over runs - it's up to the villagers themselves to invest in their leadership programme.
Anyone wanting to donate hockey equipment - and we're sorely in need of street hockey sticks and small kids' skates this year - will find bins around Banff and Canmore, Alberta. Or drop an email to us and we'll help you find a collection point.
