The road to Srinagar is finally open for spring. (Spring? What spring? the Ladakhis are asking as it's very late this year.)
Mountains of parcels languishing in Kashmir since autumn are pouring in over the Himalayas by truck.
And so is the rubbish. The tourists also are arriving in hordes (6 flights per day now). The irrigation canals have not be cleaned yet this spring - although they're being used to irrigate newly-planted fields.
With new-found tourist-generated "wealth" in Ladakh a lot of unnecessary plastic things will be pouring in, purchased, and thrown away. Road is open. Look at all it brings!
Cynthia will be blogging as she works with our Himalayan projects this year.
